The history of the Mesquite Senior Games started back in 2001. In those days the only senior games in Nevada were the Nevada State Senior Games. The commissioner of the state games wanted to expand the Games to some small communities. Mesquite, with a population of about 10,000, was chosen as one of them. Mesquite had just built the city Rec Center and some new ball diamonds.
A local by the name of Frank Pati got very excited about the prospect of senior games in Mesquite, and especially to use those new ball diamonds. Frank took the idea and ran with it, building a very successful softball tournament bringing in senior softball teams from 42 states to play in the little town of Mesquite. He added other sports to the Games and grew the organization. Frank not only brought distinction to Mesquite and the state of Nevada through his senior softball tournaments and the Mesquite Senior Games, but he changed the lives of many seniors in giving them a vehicle to stay active and to develop new friendships.
As it was in the beginning, our mission is to promote the health and fitness of anyone 50 years and better. 20 years later Mesquite Senior Games, a 501C3 non-profit, is still going strong! Although Covid-19 cut our 2020 season short and is delaying our spring 2021 season, we are ready to go as soon as it's safe to do so and state restrictions are lifted. We are excited to celebrate our history!
Our current offerings of casual, friendly competitions designed for seniors include golf skills, pickleball, track & field, horseshoes, corn hole, bocce ball, basketball skills, bowling, bridge, poker, shotgun and target pistol skills, table tennis, and others. We also offer non-competitive events like our fitness hike and history tour. We hope you'll join us. You'll find more information here on our website or give us a call at 702-345-3347. See you at the Games!
